The Gospel of Peace, Free From The Penalty

The Gospel of Peace
Free From The Penalty
Everyone Knows:
-         That God judges sin.
-         The God hates sin.
But few realize how God is able to judge sin without destroying man.
While on the cross:
-         Jesus became our sin.
-         God judged sin and gave it all the curse it rightfully deserved.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded [tormented] for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

When Jesus became sin, God judged sin in Him to deliver us from that judgment.

This is more than deliverance from a future hell.

This is deliverance from the curse or the penalty of our sins in this present life.

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Jesus:
-         Was made a curse for us.
-         Suffered the curse so that we would not be required to.
-         Redeemed us from the curse of our sin.

While Jesus was on that cross:

-         The wrath of God was poured on Him in the form of the curse of the law.
-         All the punishment that we deserved for our sin was suffered by Jesus.

What appreciation we should have!

What an awesome price He paid!

What a liberty we have!

What perfect love God has shown for men!

God is no longer angry!!!!

Psalm 22 is one of many psalms that vividly describe the punishment of Jesus while on the cross.

This was a sacrifice that became sin and reaped the judgment.

Psa 22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
Psa 22:15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

Why?

-         Were Jesus’ bones out of joint?
-         Was His torment so much more than the two thieves crucified with Him?
-         Did His death come so rapidly?

Jesus died of something other than mere crucifixion.

Death by crucifixion was slow and painful.

It often took days to die.

The Roman soldiers were amazed that Jesus had died at the end of the first day.

Jesus died from the wrath of God as the curse of the law was poured upon Him.

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Sorrows and grief – sickness and infirmity.

Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

This is the why Jesus quoted Matthew 8:17.

Mat 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Jesus carried our sicknesses and infirmities because they were the results of our sin.

A major part of that curse was sickness.

However, much of it was poverty, torments, and trials.

The only way Jesus could set us free from the results of sin was to suffer those results in our place.

Otherwise, the righteous requirements of the law would not be satisfied.

After God placed our sin on Jesus, He smote Jesus with the curse.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Many have taught that this meant the stripes of the Roman soldiers.

Stripes – bruised.

Strong’s uses the word chabbuwrah = blueness, bruise, hurt, stripe or wound.

In other words, “by His bruising we are healed.”

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

It pleased God to bruise Him and bring Him to sickness.

God bruised Jesus with my sickness.

We need never fear God bruising us with sickness because Jesus already took it for us.

2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Jesus:

-         Was rich, yet He had to suffer poverty as a part of the curse of the law.
-         The poverty He suffered was the poverty we were supposed to suffer.
-         Was rejected by God so that we would not be rejected.

More than that, because of His rejection we always have a guarantee of acceptance.

Jesus suffered every penalty sin would ever deserve.

When things come on us, they are not from God.

The book of Isaiah says that troubles and affliction will come, but they not be from God.

Isa 54:15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

God has already done His part by setting us free from the curse.

Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Satan only has the power over you that you allow him to have.

1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The way to resist is by believing the truth.

We must resist:

-         Fear.
-         Sickness.
-         Any part of the curse.

By believing the truth!

Man often finds himself yielding to sin.

Because we have been freed from the penalty of sin, we do not lose our relationship with God when we sin.

Because we are free from the penalty, we are free from the fear that could separate us from the only source of help.

When there is a penalty:

-         Man is compelled to defend himself.
-         Man lies.
-         Man is deceitful.
-         And all manner of sin.

When there is no penalty:

The pure of heart are free to receive help from a loving God.
